We began our project by reading selections from the book, "The World Beneath Your Feet." We discussed the different kinds of environments and habitats that we walk through. The students created a sketch of a small environment, where everything appeared larger than life.
Then we sketched our shoes.
Then we combined the shoe with the environment on a piece of watercolor paper. We sketched, outlined, and then painted our pieces.
I am in my sixth year teaching art at Simis Elementary, and my seventh year overall. I grew up in Minnesota, and went to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee for college. When I graduated, I decided to leave the cold and move to Phoenix to teach. When I'm not working, I am usually drawing or painting.
